OVERVIEW
Australia, the world’s sixth largest country in the world (by area) owes its location to the mainland of Australian continent and several other smaller islands. One of the wealthiest countries in the world is surrounded by a bunch of helpful neighbors including Indonesia, East Timor and others. Owing its surroundings to Indian and Pacific Oceans, particularly small size and isolation, Australia is often known by the name of the “Island Continent”.
If one likes to travel with the mind of exploring new locations, the continent provides plenty of options along with a wide variety of landscapes, like the tropical rainforests, deserts and mountain ranges, known for their liveliness and beauty, as well as other destinations such as regional Queensland, the Gold Coast and the Great Barrier Reef, which is the world's largest reef.
The ‘Great Barrier Reef’ not only successfully attracts over two million tourists annually but with the help of the management within the ‘Great Barrier Reef Marine Park’, tourists are gifted with the opportunity to camp along with the commercial marine tourism. If one is a nature lover, Uluru, Kakadu National Park and Fraser Island, are definitely the locations to catch on. There is such an amazing blend of beauty and nature that one is left mesmerizing about it. No wonder ‘Uluru’ won the title of best tourist attraction in 2013. The ‘Tasmanian Wilderness’ is another World Heritage Site in Tasmania, Australia. It is composed of a branch of parks and reserves with steep gorges such as Central Plateau Conservation and Protected Areas, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Devils Gullet State Reserve and several others.
Known for its opera and theatrical performances, the continent attracts considerable number of tourists in the ‘Sydney Opera House’. Those who are casino- fans and shopping-freaks are very well welcomed by the city. Strongly influenced by Anglo-Celtic Western Culture, the continent inhibits indigenous cultures. Cave paintings, rock engravings and body painting of its Indigenous people have played a significant role in the country’s visual arts.
The continent organizes several events/festivals annually. However, the ‘Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras’ is one particular event that attracts thousands of tourists, from around Australia as well as overseas, every year. More than 8500 people participate in the parade, who gather to highlight a topical theme or political message or sometimes represent a certain community group. The major thing not to be forgotten about the country is the 2000 Sydney Olympics which proved to be of significant help to the Australian tourism. The delicious range of wines and indigenous variety of food cuisines work as the cherry on the beautiful cake of natural beauty of the continent. With the facility of well-developed public-transport, railways and airways, along with the temperate climate, the continent leaves no scope for second thoughts about any other location, but the continent itself.
